About Sanwa
Inside/Out:
"Sanwa
Inside/Out" is a collection of photographs taken
during the year 2000 at Sanwa Bank in Otemachi,
Tokyo.
Many of us go to
work the same way, walk by the same places, see the
same people every day. We often take our
environment for granted as we settle into repeating
patterns of daily life. One of the motivations for
this collection of photographs was my desire to
share with my colleagues a day at work: observed,
seen, experienced; to show the familiar in a new
light. Another motivation was a desire to share my
work world in a unique way with my friends and
family, enabling them to see inside the four square
walls of Sanwa where I spend so much of my time. I
tried to capture the mundane in imaginative ways,
as well as provide new views and angles on the
familiar.
Have I succeeded?
Feel free to write
me and
let me know how you like these photographs, and any
suggestions you may have!
I am also excited
by the soft side of technology and the people side
of finance.
By the soft side
of technology I mean the aspect of technology which
enables a grandmother to see photos of her newborn
grandson, online, some 5,000 miles away. Advances
in computer and communications technology have
enabled this site and made it possible for me to
reach out to many people. By the people side of
finance I mean the professional men and women that
work hard every day bringing together buyers and
sellers, entrepreneurs and investors, owners and
inventors. The end result of all these
interpersonal interactions is of course reflected
in the numbers.
In my work as a
cross-border Mergers & Acquisitions
professional at Sanwa, I have the opportunity to
take part in a very active and exciting profession:
making the deals happen that drive together the
people, technologies, and companies of tomorrow.
There are very few industries in which you can
regularly put together two groups of people, add a
dash of new technology and financing, and come up
with the result: 2 + 2 = 5 (or sometimes even: 2 -
1 = 3)!
All the
photographs here were taken with an Olympus C3030
Digital Camera, originally at a resolution of
2048x1536 pixels.
